STOP DHS from forcing S-COMM on New York
Secure Communities (S-COMM) is a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program designed to get serious criminals off the streets. In practice, however, S-COMM has led to the mass deportation of good people and has impeded law enforcement's ability to do its job when immigrants are afraid to report crimes for fear of deportation.
S-COMM is destroying, not securing, communities.
Governor Cuomo heard the call of community leaders and pulled New York out of the program. DHS, however, has just taken action against the people and elected leaders of New York, attempting to force the state (and all states) to participate, whether they want to or not.
Take action now -- co-sign the letter of support for Governor Cuomo.
Sign the Letter:
Dear Governor Cuomo,
I support your decision to stand with community leaders and police by pulling New York out of S-COMM, a program which has led to the mass deportation of good people throughout our state.
I believe that the Obama Administration is wrong in attempting to force this program on New York. S-COMM is a fundamentally flawed program and DHS has repeatedly misled our state, our law enforcement leaders and our communities about its goals and implementation.
I am writing to thank you for your leadership in opting out of S-COMM and your commitment to the true security of communities throughout New York.
I stand with you.
Sincerely,
